OCTOBER: CREATING SAFE SPACES FOR CHILDREN

October gives us an opportunity to talk about two important issues that affect children and families: National Bullying Prevention Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

While they may look like very different issues, they share something important: children need to feel safe, respected, heard, and supported.

Bullying can affect a child’s confidence, sense of belonging, and willingness to participate in school and community life. Domestic violence can create fear and instability that can affect every part of a child’s world. In both situations, having caring adults who listen, recognize when something isn’t right, and help connect families with support can make a meaningful difference.

At THE BEACON, we believe creating safe spaces is about more than simply providing a place to go. It’s about helping children build confidence, develop healthy relationships, discover their strengths, and know that they matter.

Every child deserves a safe place to learn, grow, be heard, and belong.
